Introducing … The Legend of Zelda Quilt Along

So, I know that I said in my Word of the Year post that 2015 was going to be a bit of a slower year.  With several projects lined up for publication between now and summer, plus two crazy toddler monkeys underfoot, I’m really having to simplify and choose my projects very wisely.  That being said, I have a lot of projects that I just can’t share for awhile … and to keep things a little interesting between now and when I can reveal them in a few months… AND since hubby was a little bummed that the first round of our Mario Quilt Along is just about over, I’m so very excited to formally announce our 2015 Quilt Along:

So here are some awesome things about this pattern

  • First of all … it was designed by my Hubby, Rob!  This handsome man chose all the characters, built all the mock-ups, and created the basic layout.  I added some sashing and borders, plus a pieced back … so this is our first Cora’s Quilts design collaboration!  Plus … word on the street is that hubby might even be piecing some {all} of the blocks himself!  Double yay!

Rob making Zelda

  • It’s smaller than Mario!  It only has about 2,600 1 ½” squares over 9 blocks, and finishes at a very lovely 66″ x 66″ – the perfect size for napping under!

  • We’re using that fabulous fusible backing method for the first eight blocks, plus a super easy Triforce block using triangle templates.  We’ll publish a step-by-step tutorial, too, so if you’ve never tried it before, don’t sweat it!

  • It has a super nifty bonus project – a pieced back that could totally be a stand alone quilt.
    • PS: Hubby would like to clarify that this is called a “Hylian Crest” or a “Hyrule Crest” … not a “Tri-force Thingy.”

  • Just like Mario, we’re hosting a Block of the Month Club with fabric kits to go along with the free patterns!  Click here for more info!

We’ll be piecing one block a month from March 2015 – December 2015, and sharing the finishing instructions plus the pattern for the optional back panel in January of 2016.   We’ll be sharing all our monthly photos and posts here on the blog, plus on instagram (@CorasQuilts) using #CQZelda) … and we’ve set up a Flickr Group for those that would like to share your pics with us!  So, I hope you’ll consider joining us.
