It has been my tradition for the last five or six years to pick a “word of the year” and share it as my first post in January. The word is supposed to encompass my goals for the year – both private and professional – and to give a sort of overall feeling of the direction I’d like to be moving in. It’s less of a resolution list, with items I can tick off once they are finished … and more of a mantra. A daily reminder of what I’m hoping to accomplish. Have you ever been to a yoga class and had the instructor, at the start, tell you to set your intentions for the next hour? Choosing a word of the year is exactly the same thing!
Some years, I have my word picked out in September … other years (like this year) it takes a bit more time to find a word that is just the right fit. As I’m slowly working my way through The Artist’s Way, I’ve been working on my journaling – a habit that I love, yet can never seem to find the time to do – and so over the last week, I’ve been brainstorming possible words … and I have finally landed on FLOURISH: to grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way, especially as the result of a particularly favorable environment.
In other words … using self care, mindfulness, and gratitude to create a healthy garden bed to not only grow myself, our family, and my business … but to allow us all to thrive and bloom to our brightest abilities. Happy 2019!
