Gathering Mystery QAL – Week 1

Welcome, welcome, welcome to our 2017 Mystery QAL!!!  I have been waiting to say those words for the better part of SIX months now!  Every Friday for the next eleven weeks, I’ll be posting instructions to make a block or two that will come together into a brand new, never been seen before quilt pattern!

If you’re looking for more information about the QAL or would like a short-cut to the other posts in this series, you can visit our QAL Homepage here.

Without further ado, let’s get this party started!

Ok!  This week is all about cutting!  I am giving you the cutting instructions for the entire quilt – you’re welcome to get it all out of the way right at the start, or cut pieces week by week.

For this clue, and all the clues to come, the instructions for all three quilt sizes are given on the same page using this format: Toddler (Throw, Queen).  If you’re a knitter or a crocheter, this is probably a very familiar system for you.  Personally, I like to highlight the correct numbers for my desired project size, just so there is no doubt at a glance.

A few notes about this week’s clue:

  • Free printable Alphabet and Number Blocks are available here.
  • You can absolutely use the EZ Angle Ruler that we demo’ed last week to cut units D and R – you’ll need 3″ strips and twice the number of units listed (since you’re working with pre-cut triangles, rather than squares you’ll have to cut in half).

I think that about does it for this week’s post – Progress photos can be shared over on instagram – make sure you use the hashtag #GatheringQAL and you tag me @CorasQuilts – or in our facebook QAL group.  See you next Friday!
