After a month of holiday celebrations sandwiched by two rotten family-wide colds, I feel like I have a million and three things on my to do list already and I’m juggling like eight different … and it’s only the first of the year! I was determined to star the year off right, however, and decided to see if I could excavate the floor in my sewing studio/gift-wrapping central/mom-cave. I made some decent progress this afternoon … until I came across these cute little blocks that were orphaned from my Wallflowers quilt.
It wasn’t penciled in on my calendar or even on my radar, but I couldn’t resist them, so I sat down and did a little just-for-me sewing, whipping together this little table topper in about 30 minutes!
I can’t remember the last time I just sat down and sewed for no other reason than the joy of it, and I had forgotten how much pleasure starting and finishing a small project in a few stolen moments can be.
It’s not quilted yet – it’s looking to be a very good candidate for practicing my free-motion swirls – but I’m going to go ahead and call it my first finish for 2017. And, if this is any indication of what the year holds in store, I’ll happily take it. Happy New Year!!
