So, this post has been partially written but photoless for a few weeks. Perhaps, a more apt title is 3rd-Quarter Bucket list … but that just sounds so boring and corporate … Anyways, here’s a peek at what’s going on this summer at Casa de CQ.
Both our Stroll and Granny quilts are getting makeover this summer!
Stroll is keeping close to its autumny roots with a remake in Perfectly Seasoned by Sandy Gervais for Moda. Granny is also keeping close to it’s Christmasy roots with a remake in Very Merry, again by Sandy Gervais. I guess it’s just a Sandy Gervais kind of summer around here.
We’re making full-sized versions of both quilts, but we’ll have mini and full-sized kits available for both patterns. Kits will most likely be available before we have photos of the finished quilts to share – you can contact us by clicking here if you’d like to purchase either project.
Ridiculous Amounts of Binding
Several new patterns plus the aforementioned remakes mean tons and tons of binding. I’ve been experimenting with glue-basting and 100% machine binding … and while I’m not completely thrilled with the results, man does it save a ton of time. Plus, it is too ridiculously hot here to be buried under a quilt … and sweaty fingers are not conducive to binding sessions … and we’re just a little too engrossed with catching up on last season’s episodes Homeland for me to actually pay attention to a quilt in my lap … so it just might be a machine-sewn-binding-kind-of-summer. Maybe with a little more practice, I’ll love it a little more.
Cotton & Steel Baby Blankets Galore
Now, I haven’t quite hopped on the Cotton & Steel bandwagon yet, but I did fall in love with this beautiful blue fat quarter bundles from their Basics line. I threw in a couple of similarly-toned prints from previous lines and was so pleased with the combo that I decided to make both of my on-deck-baby-boy quilts with the same prints.
First up, is Elizabeth Hartman’s Hazel Hedgehog II quilt – those hipster glasses were just too cute to pass up and will go perfectly in my nephew’s forest animals nursery!
Quilt #2 is going to be a giant applique airplane quilt. No pattern … just using a basic checkerboard idea. Considering that the airplane came out much better than I had anticipated, I have high hopes for this one. 🙂
A Modern Minis Magazine Quilt
Fig Tree BOM Goodies
As I have made almost no progress on my Fig Tree Mystery Sampler blocks, I have decided to also join Fig Tree’s Classic Yuletide BOM club too. 🙂 I have wanted a Fig-Tree-y Christmas quilt almost since I first started sewing and hopefully once all my deadline sewing for the summer is done, I’ll have a little bit of
Hillside Houses Quilt Along
And finally … because there aren’t enough WIPS around here … I’ve very belatedly joined Christine’s Hillside Houses QAL over at Pretty Little Quilts. I’m making the medium-sized wall-hanging, with the intent of hanging it in our very bare dining room … hopefully before Christmas …
So, that’s our list for the summer! Love to hear what’s on your summer bucket list – leave us a comment below!
