Week 08 Agenda:
- Step 12
- Steps 16 – 23
- Steps 18 – 22
We’re here! We’re finally ready to start putting together all those carefully assembled building blocks that you’ve been working on for last two months!
The key to assembling these blocks is to stay organized! I recommend clearing an area right next to your sewing machine, and starting out by carefully laying out all the blocks for step 18 (mini version: step 12). Row by row, sew the blocks together and then immediately return them to their correct place in the line-up. This way, you’ll keep track of where the blocks go and how they’re oriented. Make all of these blocks at once for your selected quilt size.
Then, sew together all of your blocks for step 19 (mini: step 16) … then attach to the previous step …
… and finally sew together all the blocks from step 21 (mini: step 22) … and then attach to the previous step …
Some Tips for the week …
- Press all of your building blocks before assembling! Chances are, they might be a little rumpled since they were assembled so many weeks ago. A quick pressing will make a huge difference when you go to assemble them!
- Sew carefully and precisely … and press carefully – it is definitely worth taking the time to pin those seam intersections, so that your colors will line up nicely!
- Make sure you’re using that 1/4″ seam! Fully assemble one block to start with. It should be 9.5″ wide x 9.5″ tall unfinished. If it’s not, go through some of the trouble-shooting steps we’ve outlined so far in our QAL to fix the problem before making the rest of your blocks.
Happy sewing and see you next week!
